When I moved to New York one of my biggest concerns was the fate of
We Own This Town - the Nashville music blog I curated for many many years. I didn't want to see it fall by the wayside but knew that in its current state - an archaic Wordpress powered site basically duct taped together - it would never make it. So, I converted the show calendar to a
Songkick itinerary, am slowing moving the podcast archive over on to
Mixcloud and have officially
relaunched the blog portion with Tumblr now powering it.
This solves multiple problems. Namely, it allows for multiple authors to
easily post new content. Granted, there aren't any other authors but at least there
could be now. Secondly, it will allow for the automation of content much easier. There were Wordpress plugins for this but they worked terribly.
IFTTT plays quite nicely with Tumblr.
Long story short, the site is relaunched and I'd ask you to please
follow along. I think it's only going to get better.

Mac steered me towards the excellent sign painterly works of
Cari Carmean. Her style is that perfect balance between nostalgic and currently timeless (if that makes sense). I love the "MEATS", "Skies the Limit" and "The End" pieces so much.

I've been traveling and holiday'ing, so the collection this week is a bit on the short side
but it's quite entertaining. I promise. Ask
Paul, he provided a good bit of the content!
- Ho Hey Harry Caray - even if you hate the Lumineers song (understandable), this will delight. Stick around for the chorus. It is perfect.
- Red Book - "Bufferin" - Jim Henson and Raymond Scott collaborative commercial for Bufferin headache medicine. This is so arty and weird that it's hard to imagine it was an actual commercial.
- C-3PO Raps, Sells Out - teaser for forthcoming new Everything Is Terrible movie.. awkward robot rapping is always enjoyed, right?
- Dog Biting Graphic - if only all news reports had such high tech graphics.
- Roger Clark plays Rush - do you think the folks at the news station hate this guy and want to embarrass him or do you think they generally agree this is true entertainment? Both options are sad.
- Bert Haanstra - Glas - this is a 10-minute documentary on glass blowing from 1959. It won an Oscar and I dont think it's really appropriate Friday Video material but it's a little something different. I suspect most of you will skip it but if you can make it to the weird industrial middle portion, it's a nice treat.
Hope you had a great fourth and are gearing up for a quality weekend.

If you've browsed the Internet for any length of time looking at artistic endeavors you've likely encountered the mind boggling paper-cut works of
Jen Stark. Despite no introduction being needed, please do take some time to check out her latest works - there's some amazing new
holographic works,
new structures and just plain
immersive greatness to see.

My brother stumbled upon this great photo series of
Crumbling Soviet Military Bases and, in his great wisdom, sent it to me immediately. He assumed my love of Soviet Propaganda and Abandoned Structures would mesh perfect through this
Eric Lusito collection. He was right. Very right! Love it.

In case you didn't hear, H&FJ announced the webfont service -
Cloud Typography. Now if you want to use a legitimate, legal, version of Gotham.. you can. The
pricing is great, the
font options are robust and the scalability seems solid. The most intriguing part of it all to me is their
Screensmart Font pitch - they redesigned all of their typefaces to be more pixel / browser friendly. Crisper text for everyone!

When
Hotpipes launched their new album,
DUST, I knew it was going to be helpful that they already had
awesome videos to help promote it. I'm still enthralled by parts of "
Magic is Everywhere."
That being said, I'm pleased to announce that they've released a brand new video for the track
Caroline. It's a gorgeous song and an equally beautiful video. The color shifts on beat are probably my favorite part but I love being caught up in this ambiguous love story. Heartbreaking but in the best way.
If you haven't heard
DUST yet, let this be your healthy reminder.

Another quality link from
Brian coming down the pipe. This one is for Portland design agency,
The Pressure. I'm loving a great deal of what I'm seeing but this
Fastcompany spread and
Target mural are really grabbing my eye this morning. That being said, I'm also blown away by
all the rest as well!

You may have seen it linked in the sidebar but the anonymous tumblog
My Startup has 30 Days to Live is a pretty interesting read. In so much as it appears to be a legitimate bit of journaling from a startup founder that is seeing the end of the tunnel - in the bad way. Funding is about to run out, people are being fired and he's floundering through it. Will it end up being a viral bit of advertising for some Cloud service? Maybe. Will the actual product ever be revealed? I hope so. Regardless, it's an intriguing (albeit somewhat dramatic) read.
