• America 3000 - this 1986 film trailer will take you places you never expected. Find a way to see it this weekend. via Paul.
• We Are E-Mail - can we please look back at this period of popular music as The Most Embarrassing period? Please?
• Bootleg Fireworks - NSFW language but with July 4th right around the corner, you need to resee this and remember the lessons it teaches you. Bootleg fireworks are chaotic and should be engaged in at all times.
• Exploding Actresses - this is a great video series and tumblog. It is, quite honestly, the best thing on the Internet this month.
• Catimation - watch this back to back with Hypnotoad.
• Cookizza - Jed alerted me to this New Internet Classic. It is perfection.

I'm loving that Isle of Printing is emerging from their cave of Near Complete Lack of Web Presence and putting some new goods out there for all to enjoy. Namely this series of All Hail... tees on their freshly launched BigCartel store. Is $45.00 an insane amount for a t-shirt? I tend to think so. Is the All Hail Hell or any number of variants probably worth every single penny? Yes, I believe so.

I've been a fan of his musical projects for some time, and was aware that he was artistically inclined, but it never dawned on me that DM Stith has a full on visual portfolio and it is, unsurprisingly, superb. Design pieces like this or this exceed the realm of pure design and land squarely in the world of Legitimate Art. And the crazy part is, it's all like that! Definitely a portfolio to keep up with - both visually and aurally.

File under: Curious Science! The UK is set to "allow the creation of babies using DNA from three people." Basically, in an attempt to sidestep genetic deficiencies being passed on from the mother to child, scientists have discovered a way to pass in healthy mitochondria info from a third party. Many argue that this is messing with natural selection, throwing off the balance of basic gene inheritance, a slap in the face to the adoption world or a slippery slippery slope into "a eugenic designer baby market." Whatever it is, it's definitely interesting. Science!

Awhile back, Jed invited me to a new, small, link sharing community called Nest. I tinkered with it and enjoyed the occasional interaction with Jed and some of his friends. One day it renamed to Potluck and more of my friends started showing up. Now, they've fully launched and are taking on new users.

I really enjoy the site. It's a clean, slick design. It has loads of great content and it's, in varying degrees, people I know. The potential downside is that, much like Facebook or Twitter, if it explodes in popularity - you know less and less people. The content is less vetted and it becomes more self promotional and not discussion. But, that's a concern for the future. For now, it's a highly enjoyable link sharing depot well worthy of being your new favorite distraction.

Loving these street art pieces from Peter Drew. The scale is definitely a big part of it (pun intended) but I love the text and this animation is undeniable. As a side note, I usually find artists statements completely self-indulgent and overwrought but I really enjoyed this one:

Most of my recent street art features a set of pixelated faces that have something to do with the flatness and banality of human emotions once they've passed through technology. Everyday we use technology to replace the person to person interactions that our emotions have evolved to rely upon, becoming more connected but further apart. In this way technology's failures are sewn within its triumphs. I like to remember this as it entwines us.

A little over a year ago I posted about the video reel of Argentina firm Plenty. In that time, they've continued to absolutely kill it in their range of styles - motion graphics, stop motion, 3D, etc. etc. The 2013 Reel is delightful. Enjoy.

Jeremy recently gave me the heads up on the works of Oliver Jeffers. There's an awesome execution of texture throughout all his works - both commercial and freely artistic. I'm more drawn to the latter than the former. His collage, buiding installations and exhibitions are fascinating.

Out there Radio is a podcast focused on conspiracy theory, the occult, the weird and the strange. The name is a bit of a misnomer because they are actually doing their best to make sense of all the topics at hand rather than letting them unwind into the rabbit hole of craziness that they usually exist in. I enjoyed their recent take on Alex Jones and am curious to hear their insights on The Phantom Time Hypothesis. The topics can sometimes feel a little outrageous but I'm glad someone is talking about this stuff in a rational manner!

These unearthed damaged photos Margaret Bourke-White are definitely unfortunate in how far gone they are. However, they seem to take on a bit of a life of their own because of the damage - specifically some of the already creepy portraits get just that much more creepy.

The collective works of French artists Brest Brest are vast. There is so much to see in their portfolio it's a little overwhelming. Much of it is weird, compelling, ridiculous or hilarious. Sometimes all of the above. It's a portfolio worth taking time to browse in its entirety.

The idea behind Random Objects is simple: illustrate various short sayings or proverbs with compelling, mostly text, layouts. Sometimes it feels a little heavy handed for my taste but I love the typography, all the layouts and the simple imagery. Would love to see this Always Working tee back on sale.
