Here's this weeks playlist - it's pretty solid if I do say so myself.
Scottish Winds - Scotland is getting hit with some crazy winds right now, this video is but a sample of its power. Stay safe you guys!
Best Talk Show Ever - yea, you've likely seen this bouncing around the web all week but you know what? You could stand to watch it again and again and again. I do. I never tire of this man's whistling facial expressions, the sheer disbelief on the children's faces and the absolutely bizarre wrap up chat at the end of the performance. It really is the Best Ever.
Serta Trek - this was posted in June so it's probably super old Internet news but it's new to me. In fact, the entire series of Dodd's commercials is new to me. How have I missed these?
Louis CK Live at the Beacon Outtake - Louis CK is posting a new standup special on his site tomorrow, Dec 10th, for $5. This is an outtake from said performance.
Oran "Juice" Jones - The Rain - you may think you're not into this song but if you stick with it until about 2:22 when Oran "Juice" Jones calls his lady out in the most ridiculous monologue. Heads up via Jeremy.
Paul McCartney making mashed potatoes - no joke here.. just 10 minutes of Sir Paul making mashed potatoes. Will you make it through the endurance challenge? I didn't.
BONUS
Everything. Part 19 - I've posted about this before but didn't realize the final episode had finally made its way on to Vimeo.
c trailer - preview of a new sci-fi movie striving to create a film with loads of special effects sans-cgi / greenscreen. The Kickstarter reached its goal so, hopefully, they'll continue the goodness they've started with the trailer.
Michael Kiwanuka - Tell Me a Tale - have you heard this guy? Insanely good. Yea, it sounds 100% like it's straight outta the 1970's but it's perfectly on target. Lovely.
I can't help but think I'm overlooking some grand video with this weeks playlist but I'll just have to forge ahead and know that, more than likely, you're getting your video entertainment from a wealth of sources.* I digress, here's the breakdown of goods:
Bizzle Gets Some Dunkers - I find this whole dog as human setup absolutely hysterical. I mean, this is Internet Classic as far as I'm concerned and I'd like to see this grow and flourish into a proper meme onslaught.
Community, Parks and Rec style - maybe Community's ratings would improve if they'd just confuse their opening sequence with Parks and Rec. Maybe the whole slew of Thursday night shows should go this route. I'd be into it.
Muller Ad 2011 - there is so much going on here it's hard to wrap your brain around it. Knight Rider and Yogi Bear are just the beginning of the bafflement. via Tromant.
Dog Disco - everything I know about Disco does not apply to this.
The Simpsons - 300 - Need a 3D animation project? Why not blend your favorite Simpsons characters with a much mocked scene from 300? The results are.. well, incomprehensible.
Amazing Amazon Box - if your Amazon package is ever late, imagine it spent a good 48 hours going through this ordeal.
The Size of Texas - hilarious mockery of End of the World genre movies; particularly by asteroid. The two second Danny Jelinek cameo made my day. Oh, also, it was shot by my friend Blake - double bonus!
Tribute to Drive - nice animation paying tribute to the quiet brutality of one of this years favorites.
Mural at the Ace Hotel - I don't think I'll ever tire of time lapse animations of hand drawn type. This example is simple and elegant - right on the money.
Nashville residents should heavily consider going out to the Holiday Porter Flea Market at the East Park Rec Center.. looks to be a good time. Non-Nashville residents, just be jealous!
Have a great weekend.
Totally forgot to include this gem - hilarious for a number of reasons; including the notion that "kissing" is included in the definition of virginity and, obviously, the actual kiss.
Apologies on the back-to-back video posts but it's Thanksgiving break and I'm only posting once today! Hope you had a good one - be it time with friends, family or just appreciating some time alone. Enjoy the playlist!
Bob Ross Feeds a Squirrel - a heartwarming little clip. I imagine Bob Ross could charm any animal with little effort.
Warriors of Goja - snatched via Kottke this may be one of the craziest things you'll see from the Internet this year. Aside from how absolutely insane the actual act is it's amazing how long it is. Just when you think it can't get any crazier, it goes on and on.
Community Easter Egg - over the past three years the crew at Community has slowly been working on an Easter Egg in which they summon Beetlejuice. The culmination of this planning happened in this years Halloween episode.. be sure to watch the back window on the third utterance of the name. Brilliant.
Octopus walks on land - the video itself isn't that exciting, as the walking is pretty slow and awkward but just keep in mind what you're seeing while you're watching this. It's only a matter of time.
Fields of Gold - I meant to share this last week. I don't want to know if it is intentionally awkward or if it is legitimate practice - I just enjoy it for its weirdness.
Alpine Coaster - four minutes of some rather intense alpine coasting. I want to do this.
BONUS
The Loner - sort of a sad little tale overall but the animation style is great.
The Shrine / An Argument - I don't count myself among the masses of Fleet Foxes fans out there but this video is gorgeous in many ways. It's definitely a tragic tale but it's certainly visually engaging.
I could probably make a fun video playlist every day of the week. They'd be a little shorter but still amusing. If you're interested in such a thing - follow me on VHX, I post stuff all the time. Otherwise, just enjoy this weeks playlist.
2016 - I feel like I've seen / shared this before but the absolute absurdity of this trailer for 2016 can't be seen enough. More info here.
Lovely Owl - I realize Owls are incredibly overplayed as an Internet thing at this point in time but I don't really care - they are fascinating looking birds. This little compilation is a great look at a handful of them.
Mike Tyson Quotes: The Song - a song comprised entirely of Mike Tyson quotes probably shouldn't be this entertaining but it is. I'm not really a big fan of the man himself but this is so insane you have to appreciate it.
I can feel it down in my plums... - outtakes from the improved rantings of Will Ferrel during Eastbound and Down. Even if you've seen this before, watch it again.
Raiding the Lost Ark: Part 1 - a 17 minute preview of an absolutely insightful "filmumentary" regarding the creation of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Maybe you don't have time to watch it right now but, please, queue it up to watch it this weekend.
It's Friday! It's 11/11/11 (for whatever that's worth.. go ahead and start getting ready for 12/12/12 next year). It's Veterans Day. So, honor them.. or, at least, reflect on what they've done. Here is your playlist.
Wampug - I will fully admit to loving this Pug in a Wampa costume way more than I should.
Angry Cobra Cat - you may have seen the GIF before but the video of this feline confrontation is absolutely unbelievable.
PIX Id C - channel ID for the PIX channel - superb animation.
Astronauts Falling on the Moon - I bet even falling on the moon is an experience worth remembering. Especially the getting back up part.
M83 Vocal Audition - this gets fairly tiresome after the first minute but then comes back around near the end with some more ridiculousness.
Seventeen Evergreen - Polarity Song - bonkers music video featuring some knitted creature people in a thrift store. Videos like this remind you to appreciate the music video format.
Mister Heavenly - Bronx Sniper - if you haven't heard Mister Heavenly yet, this will be a good introduction. The video features the Man Wolfs going absolutely ballistic. If you've not seen this this short, do yourself a favor and watch it first to fully appreciate the whole vibe going on here. And if anyone runs across a copy of this movie, please let me know.
In case some insane viral video hits the Interwebs while I'm flying in airplane en route to Austin, TX just point your browser to Wimp.com or even The Daily What to get all caught up. Otherwise, enjoy these videos.
Liz Curtis Higgs Intro - remember when everyone had a talk show? We should all miss those times... even if we shouldn't really miss those times.
Herman Cain: Bad Lip Reading - another massively successful overdub. Before anyone calls foul that I'm harping on Conservatives too much with my enjoyment of these - there is an Obama version but it's, honestly, not as funny.
Breaking Bad: Perfect Pizza Shot - if you've not seen Season 3 of Breaking Bad you may want to skip this because it is one of the finest moments in television. Perfection.
Surfer Almost Swallowed By Whale - it really isn't as extreme as the title would have you believe but it is terrifying to think if you were actually there rather than watching a video of actually being there.
Skinemax - SmashTV put together this massive mix of worthwhile dance / electronic music set to loads of clips of your favorite movies from your childhood. Is it harping on your love of nostalgia? Yes. Is it effective and a joy to watch? You betcha.
Danger 5 Trailer - I believe Danger 5 is a TV show shown on SBS but it's hard to imagine something so great being a legit show. Keep your eyes peeled for it.. looks awesome.
This collection of Friday Videos contains some strange and humorous entries on the first half and then slips into music videos appropriate for the season. Enjoy!
Mad Monster Party Trailer - 1967 stop motion animation greatness. Dracula, Frankenstein, Werewolf, Hunchback, Mummy, Dr. Jekyll, The Invisible Man and Phyllis Diller. The skeleton band is the best.
Ghost of Stephen Foster - ignore whatever preconceptions you have about Squirrel Nut Zippers and just enjoy this phenomenally animated music video. It's kind of perfect.
Mistah FAB - Ghost Ride It - shamelessly stolen from Lance, this song is a prime example of repurposing Ghostbusters music for new creations.
Another week, another playlist. Again, for those of you reading this via Google Reader - go here until VHX gets whitelisted. For the rest of you, just enjoy!
Pumpkin Sexydance - this should be saved for next weeks Halloween playlist but it's just too damn good. The best part is, obviously, the dance but the fact that there are a myriad of YouTube variations using different songs makes it an endless vortex of entertainment. Here's the original but the Daft Punk works so much better...
LSD Fail - this guy looks like an actual zombie, amirite?
Sneaked vs Snuck - Jennifer Garner attempts to correct Conan and he fires back.. perfectly. Yea, this is from 2009 but it's new to me so it's still amusing.
Grandma Mushmouth - I am sure this lady is sweet as can be but that completely insane voice is too ridiculous not to enjoy. Thank goodness for the translation in the comments.
Top 20 5 Second Films - there are a few rather work inappropriate snippets in here but they're only five seconds, so it's worth the risk. Great compilation.
Here is this weeks playlist, watch it on VHX! Some readers have written in and stated that Friday Videos no longer work within Google Reader once I switched to the new VHX system. This is incredibly unfortunate but, sadly, not something that can be fixed by anyone but Google - since they have to "whitelist" an iframe to work within Reader. Such is the pain of early adoption. My apologies to those of you getting this in Reader but VHX is all kinds of compliant with browsers, mobile devices, etc - so just click this link to watch the videos!
Bill Gates Leaps Over Chair - Connie Chung, Bill Gates and an absolutely ridiculous physical challenge. Phenomenal.
Car Jump Rope - yep, it's a car jumping rope. Nope, I can't believe it either.
Patrick Swayze PBR Commercial (1979) - the last thing you likely equate with PBR is Patrick Swayze and Disco Dancing - until now! You can put the video on repeat and have the best day of your life.
Tiny Legs of Fire - a compilation of random videos from Doug Bayne - featuring, among many great things, BeardSlap. Some of it is a bit gruesome and/or work inappropriate but that's more of a quality seal of approval in my mind than anything else.
Big Cat Halloween - what happens when you give large jungle cats a bunch of pumpkins to play with? They behave exactly as you'd expect a housecat to act - they have a blast. Maybe you've seen this one (Since it's from 2010 and has almost 2 million views) but it's still a playful romp.
The Adventures of TinTin - an unofficial opening title sequence for the forthcoming movie. I know nothing about the film, the books or the world of TinTin but this an incredible piece of motion graphics work.
RBMA World Tour 2011 - a myriad of musical styles provide the soundtrack to this immersive animation. The stop motion stuff is my favorite but I fully appreciate all the other styles worked together. Be sure to check out the Behind the Scenes stuff as well - "impressive" just doesn't seem to properly sum it up.
Brad Pitt Ping-Pong - I watched the entirety of this 3:17 video more than once. It's incredibly ridiculous and only made more perfect with its lighthearted soundtrack.
BONUS
Cat vs Hair Dryer - you may feel a bit saddened to learn that the cat is blind but I'd still take the bet that you'll easily laugh aloud seeing the cat attack the warm air.
Stella Artois 9 Step - you'd think a four and a half minute video describing the proper steps to pour a glass of Stella Artois wouldn't be that entertaining but here's proof that it can be done.
Where's the Octopus? - I've seen this footage of Roger Hanlon encountering an incredibly stealthy octopus in the wild but the follow-up / science behind the way the camouflage technique is absolutely fascinating. If the color shifting wasn't mind-blowing enough be sure to familiarize yourself with the Mimic Octopus.
Here we go again! Remember, these playlists are now powered by VHX - so if you've been subscribed to me on YouTube to get your Friday Video fix, you need to move on over to VHX, it's better for everyone!
Whatchuwant?! - the absolute greatest 2 seconds of video online. You know what's coming and it's still phenomenal. There's also a YouTube hole of terribleacting you can explore if you feel so inclined.
FOX Retro - one incredible bumper for FOX Italy. It's basically the perfect hybrid of classic TV and videogames you'll encounter. The faux 3D stuff is perfectly integrated.
Guy On a Buffalo: Episode 2 - there's a first episode but it's not like you need to see it. Frankly, I can't even explain why I love this so much but I do. I'll probably be singing it all weekend.
"Golden Tree" by Martin Brooks - A Professional Display of No Handed Bike Moves. As you'd expect, it starts simple and gets more and more absurd. via ABar.
Andy Rooney: Out of Context - I can't say I've ever understood the allure of Andy Rooney but seeing these clips compiled makes his years of service almost worth it. Almost.
Little Richard on Jimi Hendrix - this may seem like a crazy ranting (it is) but keep aware of the quote index going on. Almost everything that comes out of Little Richards mouth is total gold. "At times, he used to make my big toe shoot up into my boot!"
Longest Argument Ever - ten minutes of Bridesmaids footage featuring Kristen Wiig and Mia Rose Frampton arguing; obviously in ad-lib fashion. It's good stuff.
Aurora Seen from ISS Orbit - not crazy wacky, just mindblowingly impressive. The Auroras phenomena has always been a fascinating thing but to see it from a space station is just beyond words.
BONUS
Slinky Drop - the slo-mo replay of the slinky dropping isn't entirely surprising but it's definitely very neat to see.
You may recall the Is That a Fish in Your Ear? animation from last week's Friday Videos but you may not have investigated further into the creators work. Matthew Young is a design student from the University of Leeds with a rather amusing portfolio of works. They are clever, well executed and well worth browsing through each and every one. I suggest starting with Books vs eBooks and make sure to hit E-Sting and The City... then maybe go follow him on Vimeo.
Officially making the switch from YouTube playlists to VHX Playlists. Why? Because I can add Vimeo and Youtube videos into one stream and because the compatibility with mobile browsers is actually better. Imagine that! Many many thanks to the VHX team for getting this together. If you're not already using their service, you really should be.
Is That A Fish In Your Ear? - promotion for the David Bellos book of the same name that talks about language and the peculiarities of specifics. via Paul.
Insane Office Escape - you may not love the music that goes along with this video but you will likely enjoy the first person perspective. Consider it a teaser to that new Spider-Man movie.
Billie Jean Dance - yes, this is your typical "Fail" video but it always warms the heart to see someone slightly injure themselves.
Time Travel Commercial - I was highly engaged by this viral 7UP commercial. I won't deny it, I chortled aloud several times.
Tom Selleck's Moustache - someone took it upon themselves to add Tom Selleck's moustache to a myriad of classic films. Improvement? You decide.
Feel free to watch this weeks playlist over on VHX. They're damn close to my perfect vision of an embeddable player so it's just a matter of time before I start using it all the time anyway.
SR - The Faceplant - terrible Metallica cover? Check. Ridiculously drunken fan? Check. Perfect Faceplant? You bet.. wait for it.
Osaka Station City - you wouldn't think waterfall technology was really an area that was getting a lot of love but based on this video you can tell that there have been some serious breakthroughs lately.
Panda Ying Hua on Rocking Chair - it's been awhile since I posted a pure, unadulterated cute animal video. This fills the quota a hundred times over.
I dunno how, or why, or what happened but my laptop is behaving in the most peculiar of ways. And by "peculiar" I mean, freezing every 30 seconds or so. Long story short, there's good reason this post isn't showing up until early afternoon. My apologies. The good news is, you can watch the videos on YouTube OR on VHX - since they just launched a beta playlist feature. Eventually, all Friday Videos will be through an embedded VHX player and we'll all thank them for it.
2011 Nike Mag - if somehow you missed the news, Nike is releasing a version of the Back to the Future shoe that Marty wore in the second movie. It's pretty damn close to the original with the exception of the fact that they don't self-lace. 2015 is right around the corner tho...
Stairway to Stardom - you can watch 30 seconds of this and your day will be complete. Or you can watch the whole thing and improve your entire weekend.
Hidden Camera Death - yes, this is from a super cheesy prank TV show.. but the gag is pretty morbid and, thus, much more amusing to me. Plus, I absolutely love the visual of a grim reaper - always a treat.
Back to the Start - a Chipotle ad featuring Willie Nelson covering a Coldplay song. It's always kind of odd to see a huge chain promoting "getting back to basics" because real basics would be Mom and Pop owned stores, not chains. But it's still a compelling video.
Other planets the same distance as the moon - not a funny / ridiculous video but a supremely interesting one. Seeing Mars in the night sky wouldn't be that weird... seeing Jupiter is a whole different story.
Dancing Marionette - the most awkward, sexualized marionette you'll ever encounter (hopefully). via Paul.
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra - "Even when I was a child, I was hated by skeletons." And also, "I sleep now." Must see this whole thing.
Bonus Videos
Don't Hug Me I'm Scared - Some rather friendly felt puppets explore the world of creativity. Obviously, it goes into some dark places but it's a great journey getting there.
That's All Folks - A canon fuse glued to plywood burning through paper to spell out "That's All Folks." I'd love to see this one in double time.
Back to the Future IV - I'm starting the rumor right now, this is a clip from a new Back to the Future film. Obviously I made that up and this is some sort of viral video for something that I don't really comprehend but it's just easier to believe that another sequel to the series is being made in another country with a legit Christopher Lloyd appearance.
Some weeks are better than others and this week has no shortage of greatness. Some may say it's quantity over quality but I'd argue that there's something for everyone. Be sure to watch the Bonus Videos too.
Japan World Cup 3 - don't ask to explain it. Just enjoy the prancing horse, the flopping seal, the yeti, the trojan horse and the insane musical performance.
SawStop Hot Dog Demo - if you were planning on sawing a hot dog anytime soon you may want to consider not procuring the SawStop blade.
PonPonPon - this music video is crazy enough just for the first 30 seconds but, as it progresses, it gets crazier and darker and way weirder (if that's even possible). via Chad.
Captain Awesome vs Artillery Shell - basically some dumb kids doing some dumb thing resulting in amusement. Fortunately they filmed the stupidity from a number of angles so you get to enjoy it over and over.
My apologies on the shortened Friday videos last week.. I could barely keep my eyes open all day. Hopefully this perfect morsel of a video treat - That's a Ten - will make up for it. Personally, I think a little lip smacking combined with such a memorable catchphrase is going to catch on big time.
