I'll post more about this in the coming week but Jasmin Kaset teamed up with Quichenight to record an album entitled Tuxedo. It's coming out in early November and the first song, "A Single Right Word," was recently released.
The plan is to have videos for every track on the album. So, consider this the first of many.
I've been pleasantly obsessed with this Beavis & Butthead Birdcloud Tee for awhile now and recently became aware that it was drawn by Cody Lee Hardin, a Nashville artist with a delightfully macabre wit. "Highbrow Fart Humor" - his words, not mine.
I'll keep my We Own This Town cross posts to a minimum here but whenever there's a new MUSIC episode, expect to hear about it. I enjoy working with all of the shows on the network but this one is most decidedly mine, so I feel the most compelled to share it here.
The latest episode, Volume 118, was put together after two weeks of fairly intense travel. I really suspected that I'd have a hard time compiling the playlist for it but it came together in no time flat.
I attribute this ease of compilation to the overwhelming amount of great music coming from my city. I'm sure lots of cities are this way but I'm happy that Nashville isn't slowing down in the non-Music Row creation department.
Stumbled into the works of Joan Chiverton and have been enjoying the loose watercolour creations capturing various bands, models and events around New York. There's something compellingly classic about the arrangements and layouts of her work. Learning that she's worked as a teacher at the Fashion Institute of Technology makes perfect sense given how well she's able to capture the apparel and vibe of any particular scene.
Great video essay on Paul Thomas Anderson: An Auteur of Auteurs, in which an old interview with Anderson and Charlie Rose is set to footage of his films, even those well beyond what he'd filmed at the time of the discussion. It's a simple execution but a compelling watch nonetheless.
"There is a sense that the midterms mark the end of something – maybe Mr. Trump’s unchecked domination over American political life; maybe the American experiment itself. "
I remember having a day off on the Warped Tour so I went to a coffee shop to download the first Girl Talk album via Soulseek on my Dell laptop https://t.co/PJk7r45RgK
BlackLivesMatter & MeToo & Occupy have generated more honest public discourse on how racism & sexism & capitalism impact every facet of American life. So when ppl say "we've never been more divided" I cant help but wonder if it's just that *their* myth of America has been upended
Out of the frying pan and into the fire! Just got home from India and I'm off to New Orleans. The fun never stops around here.
Enjoy some distractions, you earned it.
Brian Wilson - Smart Girls - in 1991, Brian Wilson (and his former therapist), wrote this song. At the time, it was meant to keep Wilson relevant with the popular hip-hop "craze" but it has not aged well. Endurance challenge, for sure.
Edward Furlong Singing - just another classic entry in the "Horrible Solo Vocal Tracks from Celebrities" genre.
Eminem as Talking Heads song - SuperDeluxe does this sort of thing frequently and, occasionally, it really works. You decide if they nailed it on this one.
Bangalore Horn Variants - there was no escaping the constant car horns in India. However, some of them sound like Deluxe Doots, so it wasn't all bad. Here's a taste.
Ween: The Stallion Pt 2 - while I have plenty of thoughts about Mr. Ed in general, I can't deny how perfect of a mashup this is with Ween.
Eric Idle Breaks Down His Most Iconic Characters - this is an ongoing series from GQ and it rarely disappoints. Idle discussing all of his Python characters and the writing behind many of them is quite enjoyable.
TLDR: Band releases artful new music vide. I enjoy it.
My introduction to The Mute Group was their video for "Brainplate in Eb" - an enigmatic undertaking with a modern art vibe. I didn't understand it per se but I liked it.
Fittingly, they've just released a new video for "Abuses & Superstitions," another track off their forthcoming album Sinister Hand. The video is performed in one take and equally as enigmatic as the previous. For me, it feels like a Renaissance painting mixed with an early 90's REM video. There's meaning here in the character choices, the placement, the interactions and the repetition but it may be up to the viewer to decipher what those meanings are.
It's an ambiguity that I respect and greatly enjoy as it makes the experience wholly your own.
As you'd guess from the title, Abandoned Southeast is a photography portfolio of abandoned buildings throughout the Southeast. However, these are not just your run-of-the-mill homes abandoned by foreclosure or natural disaster. Locations like House of Rock or Pizitz Department Store in Birmingham depict realms that have fallen into disrepair over time but still maintain an unbelievable appeal. Also, be sure to read the entire story behind this abandoned Casino Cruise Ship in Florida, it's a fascinating tale.
Cream premiere! @TheMuteGroup gets surreal in their video for "Abuses & Superstitions." Check it out now, and see them in person on Friday at @TheEastRoom.
