Absolutely love this
Eran Hilleli animation sequence that functions as the opening sequence for the
Style Frames 2016 creative conference. It's an epic journey of colorful characters that manages to not take itself too seriously. This
interview from Art of the Title really does a great job digging into the creation and process of the piece from Hilleli. Do recommend.

Pretty fascinating animation
here (narrated by Amy Goodman of
Democracy Now!) that takes the time to explain Noam Chomsky's "5 Filters of Mass Media" from his book
Manufacturing Consent. The idea (and book) were published in 1988 and was based on previous publications from the 1920's and late 1880's. That is to say, this isn't a
new idea but it does feel more relevant these days.
This isn't a slag on Fox News or "fake news" or any particular political bend. Nor is it a conspiracy theory that I'm brewing in my own brain (those seeds are hard to unsow). It's a video of a concept that's worth being aware of. What action we take beyond that is still unknown.

Almost a year ago I
posted about Nashville band
Coupler providing a live, improvised score to the 1925 Hanns Walter Kornblum silent film
Our Heavenly Bodies. My hope was that the event wasn't just a one time event. Fortunately for me, it wasn't!
The band is now on tour screening the restored version of the German epic (courtesy of Filmmuseum Munchen) and playing along with it. It's not a massive amount of dates so go
check their site for specifics or
follow along to vaguely experience it via social media. Or, just
watch the trailer, which is an excellent experience in and of itself.

It's been a
few years since I peeked into the world of
Electric Objects but a few of their recent developments has me intrigued. They launched the
EO2, a souped up model of their original digital display that displays at 1080p with minimal glare. The hardware doesn't do much for me but the
original art collections are worth a look. New pieces from
Saskia Keultjes and
Pools by Nate Makuch were the two that caught my eye in particular.
$300 for a connected monitor and $10/mo for digital art is far too rich for
my blood but I do love the concept and offerings.

I missed the boat on backing it but
Narita Boy looks like the next great entry in the "pixel games set in dystopian world" ala Fez, Sword & Sorcery or, my favorite, Hyper Light Drifter. The
trailer looks great - fun animations, a bit quirky and super well realized. I don't play a ton of games anymore but this one is officially on the list.

Nashville is a lot of things these days but sometimes it's just letting John Oates have the good parking spot in the mall parking garage.

For whatever reason, I got the phrase "Heavens to Murgatroyd" stuck in my head this morning and then discovered it was originally coined by Bert Lahr (the Cowardly Lion) in
Meet the People. Also, it has no meaning. One surprising fact mixed with one less surprising fact. Here's some more fiddle faddle for you:
Enjoy!
