Many thanks to
Kory for the heads up on the Kickstarter campaign for Gary Hustwit's proposed
Dieter Rams documentary. I can think of no better filmmaker to take on the legacy of Mr. Rams than Hustwit. His
Design Trilogy of films is phenomenal and completely lends itself to covering the
life of Rams, his work at
Braun and the
continuous influence of his designs.
I backed it and anxiously await any update on its creation and release. I suggest you
do the same.

Nice to see
Drip for Drip relaunch their site in a manner that really properly showcases the cup design and artist interviews in an entirely pleasing manner (not that it was bad before). If you haven't seen them already, go dive into the different
Editions and then
follow along for updates.

This piece from Viljami Salminen on
Typography for User Interfaces is a pretty fascinating read. It's more of a history of GUI and typography than anything but it does touch on some great studies about reading behavior and how screens are affected by that. I'm quite curious to read up on the future of typography and some of our more crazy forthcoming interactions - i.e. typography in a VR world, where Helvetica Thin probably isn't going to be beefy enough to work against a real world, floating, backdrop. Regardless, this is a great place to start.

Take a little dive into the portfolio of Andy Gregg, aka
Super Studio. The 8-bit sendups - such as Mega-Boss Trump shown above - are phenomenal but he's got plenty more
tricks up his
sleeve.

It's been a long while since I've enjoyed Weezer but I couldn't help but morbidly partake in this
Song Exploder episode where Rivers Cuomo talks about his song writing process. After hearing about the scientific manner in which he notates his lyrics into a searchable database I completely understood why their music felt distant and disconnected from an actual expression of emotion; because it is! Granted, it's all subjective. Anyone is welcome to enjoy Weezer in any way that they like but it felt like validation
to me after hearing this episode. Well worth a listen.

Pretty sparse in the blog department this week!
VHX had our final week in our lovely Brooklyn office and we've made the transition to the new
IAC / Vimeo building over in the Meatpacking District. Aside from all the packing up of a whole office, we also took one last company retreat. Oh, and I flew to Nashville to visit family. Oof. Lots going on!
But despite that, I'll still cobble together some absurd distractions for you!
- When the Lights Come on in the Club - I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonably explanation for this but I refuse to believe anything except Pure Mayhem for the man rolling around in a carpet.
- Clown Core Pizza Party - If this has been posted previously I wiped the nightmare from my mind. Now it's back.
- It's Always Sunny in London - I wouldn't have thought so before I watched it but this is kind of a perfect skewering of the mess Britain just made.
- Google G-Board - really thoughtful ad for the new Google keyboard.
- SpotMini - you know those horrifying Boston Dynamics robots? Yea well, they went and put a "face" on one and shrunk it down. Extra terror.
- Subway Idiot 2 - tons of work for a silly, effective, joke. Loved every second of this. Will watch again and again. Thank you Steve.
