Had the pleasure of seeing the latest Bridget Riley installation over at the David Zwirner gallery this weekend and it led me down a deep rabbit hole of discovery. Diving into her Tate collection or Artsy Profile you can see decades of work that seems alarmingly simple but incredibly engaging with just the simplest variation on the implementation. Black and White lines warping in space or color bars stacked in diagonal doesn't sound like much to describe out loud but she manages to make it quite compelling to look at.

Give yourself some time to really dive in to each of those aforementioned profiles, you'll appreciate yourself for it later.

The Art Of Penguin Science Fiction

Can't get enough of this repository of Penguin Science Fiction covers. There's an amazing variety of style but you can clearly see patterns and themes across the different eras. I think my sweet spot may be Into the Computer Age or Strange Fruit (early 70's) but it really is difficult to pick a single favorite anything from this bunch of greatness.

My only complaint about this page is that the images are never available in Gigantic Size but, as luck would have it, there's a postcard set of many of these images, which would certainly suffice in proper dedicated enjoyment.

Byte

Recently ran across Byte, an iOS app that seems to be geared towards making rather bizarre animations in the form of cards. It actually reminds me of Glitter - another card based animation app. The difference being that Byte has profiles and following built right in, which Glitter hasn't quite reached yet (if given the chance, I'm sure they will).

On the whole, Byte is an interesting place to see familiar names, weird messages and just sad bizareness. I'm not sure I can contribute much in terms of the weirdness being created but I'm certainly going to try.
